Description

Jamie Vollmer is a former attorney and business executive turned public school advocate. He previously served as president of the Great Midwestern Ice Cream Company and participated in the Iowa Business and Education Roundtable for five years before switching careers. He wrote the book, Schools Cannot Do It Alone and now speaks nationally encouraging educators, business leaders and community groups to work together to build successful schools. Using his personal transformation as evidence, he shares why there is no greater return on investment of our tax dollars than public schools.

IMPORTANT PARKING UPDATE

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, the parking ramp adjacent to Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center will be managed by the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety. Payment kiosks are located in the hotel (two on the lobby level next to the ATM) and in the parking ramp (three on the ground level).

For the remainder of 2023, Kellogg has arranged with MSU police that Lansing Economic Club attendee parking remain complementary.

Lansing Economic Club attendees can bypass putting in a code with no risk of ticket. Just park and enter. Lansing Economic Club attendees will not need to stop at the kiosks on their way into the building.

Jamie Robert Vollmer

Jamie Vollmer is defender and promoter of public education. He works to increase support for America’s public schools and for the millions of educators who heroically strive to ensure student success.

Jamie is the author of the book, Schools Cannot Do It Alone, proclaimed by the American School Board Journal to be one of the “Top ten books of the year.” He received the Learning and Liberty award from the National School Public Relations Association in recognition of his success in strengthening school/community partnerships.

With a background in law and manufacturing, Mr. Vollmer entered the education arena in 1988 as a founding member of the Iowa Business Roundtable. At the time, he was president of the Great Midwestern Ice Cream Company, declared by People magazine to make the “Best Ice Cream in America!”

Once a harsh critic of America’s public schools, over the last thirty years he has become an articulate champion, working with educators, parents, business and community leaders to remove the obstacles to student success.

Vollmer holds a Juris Doctor from Catholic University, and a B.A. from Penn State. He is married to his college sweetheart. They have three grown children who they love, but they love their two granddaughters way more.
