The Graduate Hotel East Lansing Rooftop Expansion Letter Sign-On

Encourage the East Lansing City Council to Support the Graduate Hotel East Lansing Rooftop Expansion

On behalf of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, we write to express our strong support for the proposed rooftop expansion at the Graduate Hotel East Lansing, as well as the related conversion of Evergreen Avenue to a one way southbound street.

The Graduate Hotel East Lansing has become a central gathering place in East Lansing for Michigan State University alumni, visitors, local residents, and the business community. It serves as a destination for watching Spartan athletics, hosting conferences, celebrating milestones, and fostering connections. The hotel is an important and valued contributor to both the local economy and community experience.

The proposed rooftop expansion builds on that success. It will introduce additional private dining space and create new opportunities for weddings, conferences, celebrations, and other events. Enhancing these offerings strengthens the hotel’s ability to attract visitors while expanding amenities that benefit both residents and guests.

This investment will also generate meaningful economic impact for East Lansing. Increased visitation and hotel activity will drive additional occupancy and sales tax revenue that directly supports the local community.

In addition, we support the proposed conversion of Evergreen Avenue to a one way southbound street, along with the addition of six publicly available loading spaces. These improvements will help alleviate existing traffic congestion and improve access, addressing challenges created by the site’s limited frontage.

We are encouraged to see continued private investment in East Lansing. This project reflects the strength of our community and reinforces that East Lansing is a place where businesses can grow, innovate, and succeed.

For these reasons, we respectfully urge the East Lansing City Council and East Lansing Planning Commission to support these proposals.

Respectfully,
Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce
And the undersigned businesses and organization
